Fast and economical implementation of muting applications thanks to ASi-5-Safety Muting module

The term "muting" refers to the momentary bypassing of non-contact security systems, such as a photocell or light curtain, to safely move automated freight shipments in and out of hazardous areas using muting sensors without endangering people. Implementing muting applications up to SIL3/PLe has never been more economical. The new ASi-5-Safety Muting module BWU4411 in IP67 from Bihl+Wiedemann after all, provides significant cost savings over comparable Ethernet-based solutions.

Whether cross-muting or sequential muting, all sensors and safety components required for this purpose can be flexibly connected to the new ASi-5-Safety Muting module BWU4411. This means that the compact module processes all signals required for this purpose via a single ASi-5 address. Unused connections can be used for other applications, such as controlling muting lamps or integrating push-button modules. All relevant signals can be processed not only in the ASi safety monitor, but also transmitted via PROFIsafe, CIP Safety, FSoE or openSAFETY.

With the ASIMON360 Software Suite from Bihl+Wiedemann ready-made certified muting components for numerous applications can be configured easily and quickly. Complex programming in the controller is not required. This new ASi-5 muting module not only scores technically, but also provides significant cost savings. The BWU4411 is over 60 % cheaper than comparable Ethernet-based solutions on the market. In addition, the user benefits from lower material and assembly costs and an extremely simple and flawless installation thanks to ASi cables and pricking technology.
