With the new chainflex cable CF33.UL, igus has developed the world's first motor cable for moving cable beads and static cable trays (TC-ER) with UL approval and a four-year functional warranty in the cable bead. This allows the cable to be laid seamlessly from the cableups to the cable tray without a connection in between. The CF33.UL also adds a shielded PVC motor cable to the chainflex range.
Cables are not exactly the most exciting products. Without cables, however, you wouldn't be able to read this text. After all, they are essential for providing us with electricity and data every day. A failing cable leads to significant damage, especially in manufacturing. Cables must withstand a wide variety of stresses, such as heat, cold, high dynamics, UV radiation or even flames. Test certificates from Underwriters Laboratories (UL for short) are also required for uncomplicated export of machines and systems to the U.S. and Canada. igus has now developed the CF33.UL motor cable specifically for cables in cable tracks and cable trays (TC-ER). What makes these cables special is their UL listing ("Flexible Motor Supply Cable according to UL 2277"). Normally, UL-approved cables are intended only for fixed installation or occasional movement. UL approval for continuously moving cable crawler cables did not exist until now. "With the new motor cable, we offer our customers a cable type that is suitable for both cable tracks and cable trays. A connection such as connector connection is no longer necessary," explains Sebastiaan Koelewijn, Product Manager of the Business Unit chainflex cables at igus. Users also avoid double cable supplies for the cable caterpillar and fixed installation.
"We also rely on the lifetime warranty for our new motor cable. We offer our customers tested and certified safety," Koelewijn said. To this end, igus subjects its cables to tests in its own 3,800-square-meter laboratory. Thanks to this series of tests and 30 years of experience in moving cables, igus recently extended the warranty on the new motor cable to four years or 10 million double strokes. igus also uses the data from the laboratory for its online tools, such as the chainflex lifetime calculator. Here, customers can determine the durability of cables in their applications online. In this way, chainflex cables allow customers to further improve the durability of their applications. This is because a cable that is replaced or broken too soon has a correspondingly high CO2 impact due to the production and transportation of a replacement product.
