New igus® app uses AI to show the optimization potential of motion plastics for more than 450 applications in just seconds
What is an easy way for me to improve my machine? The answer is: try the new igusGO app. Plastics specialist igus® has now used AI to develop a unique product search app. Just take a picture of the application and its surroundings, and the igusGO intelligence shows you which products to use for a lubricant-free design, for example. The app also shows where else there is potential to improve machine technology while saving costs.
Finding the right products can be very time-consuming and time-consuming during the design process - especially when there is a wide range of products on the market. To help customers find the right components for their application in a playful way, igus has developed the igusGO app. Customers can use the app to discover the potential of igus products in their application to improve their design. The lubrication- and maintenance-free machine elements made of lightweight high-performance plastics not only extend service life but also reduce costs. Working with the app is as simple as winking. Users take a picture of their application. igusGO uses AI to determine the object and shows possible application options of igus products in the machine or factory. To do this, the AI uses data from igus projects the customer has already performed on similar machines and components. With a single click, the app user gets more information about the plain bearings, linear technology or cable spool and can order the product immediately in the igus webshop or have the expected life of the product in the machine displayed in advance. "Many of our customers do not know how many application possibilities there are for all our products. That's why we developed the igusGO app. It complements our service offering and is available 24/7," explains Mark van de Waal, Marketing Manager at igus B.V.
The app already contains more than 450 different applications and more are added every day. From coffee machines to bottling plants and airplanes to excavator wheelbaggers. "The igusGO app is meant to be a source of inspiration. At the same time, we want to open the app to a community in which everyone can participate and share their projects with others," says Van de Waal. "If the app does not recognize an application, the user can report it to us immediately. We respond within 24 hours and point out any opportunities for improvement." In recent months, the first beta testers have already convinced themselves of igusGO and suggested improvements. The app is available in German and English for both Android and IOS and as a web version at https://app.igusgo.cloud/. In the next level of configuration, igus also plans to integrate an AI chatbot that can answer users' questions.
igus is now also using AI for the spare parts of its cable tracks. "With our product recognition, we want to help all employees in companies to order spare parts very quickly," says Peter Wirth, Head of Digital Sales & Marketing. Again, the principle is simple: just take a picture of the cable caterpillar using the product recognition app. The igus-trained AI recognizes the corresponding model from nearly 50 series of cable beads. With one click, users go to the webshop, where they can order their new cable caterpillar in the desired length, without a time-consuming search for the last purchase order.
